Q. What is the ATA?
A. The ATA is the American Taxpayers Association, a non-profit mutual benefit organization that was established for providing education, audit protection and other general consumer tax advocacy information to its members.

Q. Who can join the ATA?
A. Any individual in the United States, not residing in New York, is available for membership into the American Taxpayers Association.**

Q. How long does a membership last?
A. Membership benefits and access to 'Member Only' portion of the ATA website last for one year.

Q. Does the ATA insure both state and federal Returns?
A. For the time being, we only insure federal returns. We do plan on covering state returns in the future.

Q. What do I do if I am audited?
A. If you are audited, you will need to contact the American Taxpayers Association at (866) JOIN ATA and inform them of the impending audit. The ATA will then inform you of next steps and what procedures you must follow.

Q. What is the principal mission of the ATA?
A. The American Taxpayers Association is a nonprofit mutual benefit organization that was established for providing education, and audit protection, and other general consumer tax advocacy information to its members. The ATA's mission is to be a trusted tax advocate and protect its members from the distress, disruptions, and financial burden caused by an IRS audit.

Q. If I am audited, who represents me?
A.
As a benefit of the audit protection insurance, you can have your own professional represent you in an audit. The Basic Plus membership allows for all of the $1000 to be used for representation.

Q. If I do not have a tax professional to represent me in the event of an audit, can I represent myself?
A. You may represent yourself, but the American Taxpayers Association recommends that you use a CPA or an Enrolled Agent to represent you. The ATA has a network of CPAs and Enrolled Agents that can represent you in an audit. The American Taxpayers Association will recommend several so that you may choose one that you prefer. The audit protection benefit will pay their fees up to $1000.

Q. Are there any other organizations that provide audit protection insurance?
A.
The American Taxpayers Association is the only organization that offers audit protection insurance across the United States.

Q. How secure is the information that I provide to the American Taxpayers Association over their web site?
A.
We use SSL encryption technology to ensure that all information is treated with the highest sensitivity. The ATA also limits the employees' access to information to ensure the intended individual views the intended information.

Q. Is the American Taxpayers Association connected to the IRS in any way?
A.
The ATA does not work for the IRS and is in no way affiliated with the IRS. We provide services for the American Taxpayer.  The ATA does not support fraudulent claims in any way, nor do we pay fraudulent claims.

Q. What happens when I am audited and the IRS assesses additional taxes and interest that are greater than the audit protection benefit provided by ATA Membership?
A. Any fees above the $1000 benefit limit are the responsibility of the individual involved in the audit.

A.

**NOTE: The Audit Protection Benefit is underwritten by Certain Underwriters at Lloyds of London and is currently not available to Taxpayers who reside in the State of New York
